The Wind Down at The Painswick
Wind Down Tips

The Wind Down at The Painswick

We’re excited to introduce a new series featuring the most comfortable places to stay ever. Think of it as the travel collection of the cosiest cabins, most comfy cottages, and most luxurious boutique hotel's you’ve been waiting to discover. All have been given the Bedfolk seal of approval as the best places to stay to help you wind down well (well…apart from your own home, because there’s no place like home).

We’re launching the first in this series with The Wind Down at The Painswick - a luxury boutique hotel in the idyllic Cotswolds countryside.

The Painswick Hotel

Let's set the scene…

Nestled comfortably in the ‘Queen of the Cotswolds’, you’ll find the picture-perfect village of Painswick. With plenty to explore nearby, there are many reasons to visit. From a scenic stroll around Rococo Gardens and wine tours at Woodchester Valley Vineyard to a Saturday morning spent at Stroud Farmers Market and countryside walks galore. Cheltenham is just a half-hour drive away if you fancy a day of shopping and sightseeing, ahead of an evening of fizz and feasting at The Painswick.

Countryside chic

It's all in the detail

The picture-perfect Palladian house is your new home-from-home. Think roaring fires, sink-into-me sofas and seventeen stylish bedrooms where peaceful slumber beckons. Also not forgetting a fabulous restaurant and a cocktail bar. The décor is very laid back, yet stylish, with plenty of dainty details, pretty pops of colour and countryside charm throughout.

The best ways to wind down

Curl up with a good book or cocktail in one of the hotel's cosy corners, either in front of the roaring fire or on the balcony or terrace. Switch off and take in the ever-changing Cotswold views. There’s also a games room with a pool table, or if you fancy a change of scenery, boots are available to borrow for a lovely stroll around the village.

Now this looks cosy

Soft lighting and muted colours and tones create a warm yet calm environment to relax in and offer plenty of locally made treats to tuck into. Wind down back in your room and run a relaxing bath using a selection of Ren toiletries, before jumping into a fluffy robe and sinking into comfy cloud-like beds. In winter, there’s cosy socks and hot water bottles to keep you warm and toasty.

Enjoy a tipple or two at the bar

Q&A

Q: It’s Friday night and we’ve just arrived. What’s the best cocktail behind the bar?

A: We’re always shaking and stirring up some great seasonal cocktails. Our bar team will always recommend the ‘Rococo Garden’: Freshly squeezed raspberries mixed with homemade rosemary syrup, Bombay Sapphire and lemon juice, poured over crushed ice and topped up with Chambord and fresh rosemary.

Q: What are we most likely to see from our bedroom window?

A: Gorgeous views of the Slad Valley and beyond - and if you’re visiting in spring, swoon over the wisteria that adorns our beautiful balcony.

Q: How do you make The Painswick feel like a home-from-home, rather than a hotel?

A: With a super relaxed service and a warm welcome as soon as you step through the door, you’ll feel right at home. Our friendly team are always on hand to help with anything and when you fancy kicking back with friends or family, we have several rooms and outdoor spaces to choose from.
