Behind the Design: The Wash Bag & Makeup Bag

We're excited to welcome The Dream Cotton Wash Bag & Make-Up Bag to our Bathroom Collection. Practical and luxurious, these dreamy bags do it all: from keeping your self-care essentials organised whilst on-the-go, to storing your products stylishly on your bathroom shelf.

Creative Director and Founder, Jo, and our Product Lead, Emma, share all the details behind the making of our new favourite bathroom accessories.

First off, why did you want to make The Dream Cotton Wash Bag & Make-Up Bag?

Jo: These dreamy little pouches felt like a no-brainer for us, as we looked to expand both our Bathroom Collection, and our Gifting offering. They felt like the perfect product for both, and a great opportunity to use our absolute favourite fabric – Dream Cotton. If you haven’t felt it yet, it’s exactly as its name suggests – a dream! Just the softest, most comforting fabric.

We also chatted a lot as a team about how difficult it was to find a good Wash Bag / Make-Up Bag; one that both looks lovely in your bathroom or your suitcase but is also generously sized and practical. So, we were on a mission to create something that really stood out as special, timeless, and super-useful.

What is the difference between the two?

Jo: They’re designed in exactly the same way, with 4 layers of organic Dream Cotton (so soft), and internal pockets on both sides (one large pocket down one side, and two smaller pockets on the opposite side). The difference between the two is in the sizing.

Emma: We worked so hard perfecting the sizes of the bags, sampling and testing multiple measurements, and adjusting the dimensions a few centimetres at a time. The large Wash Bag comfortably fits full-size toiletry products with plenty of room to spare and The Make-Up Bag is perfect for long-handled make-up brushes (as well as a paperback book!). High on our agenda was ensuring there were plenty of internal pockets, with a roomy main pocket and three compartments on the side panels for all those little needs. Great for staying organised!

Jo: I think internal pockets make a huge difference to how useful Wash and Make-Up Bags are, so we’ve made sure to include as many as possible.

What did the design process involve?

Emma: We wanted to create the ultimate Wash Bag that was not only practical but also luxurious. We chose an organic cotton with our signature Dream Cotton texture and a quilted pattern (reminiscent of our Cotton Quilts) on the outer, with a fully lined cotton inner. We had very specific requirements sourcing the zip (from one of the world’s best zip suppliers), for an easy and effortless experience, in a muted antique gold. As well as incorporating dyed-to-match zip tape details and a self-fabric puller.

What do you love most about these new products?

Jo: Lots of things! I love the fact they are made of Organic Cotton. I love the colour palette – particularly Ochre (which was a bit of a wild card when we were selecting just three to launch with), and I love the fact they are Quilted. They feel very ‘Bedfolk’ due to the quilting, the fabric, and the colour palette. I hope our community love them as much as we do.

I also love the price point, which we worked hard to achieve, and which feels perfect for gifting. My friends and family will know what to expect under the Christmas tree this year!

Emma: Maybe I'm a little biased, but I love everything about the design of the bags! They offer great storage without being too bulky. We selected three of our core colours that are really universal and can mix and match with so many of our other products!

Tell us what you are going to put in yours?

Jo: I’m already using mine on my bathroom shelves to store wind-down goodies – The Wash Bag is the perfect size for bath oils and body lotions. I’ve also made use of it for on-the-go with my daughter, it’s a great size for nappies, wipes and other toddler essentials.

Emma: I’ll be travelling to Japan in November so will be sure to bring both sizes! I’ll use the larger Wash Bag in my hand luggage to carry my in-flight necessities (including my cashmere socks!) and The Make-Up Bag for my in-flight toiletries.
