The Wind Down at The Hatch, Cornwall
We can’t wait to open the doors to the next dreamy place to stay in our ‘Wind Down At’ series. Our travel collection of the cosiest cabins, most comfy cottages, and most luxurious boutique hotels that you’ve been waiting to discover. All of which have been given the Bedfolk seal of approval as the best places to stay to help you wind down well (well…apart from your own home, because there’s no place like home).
This time we’re heading south to the beautiful Cornish coastline and the quintessential village of Crantock, where we discovered a luxury self-catering thatched cottage called The Hatch.
Let’s set the scene
Nestled in the south-after Cornish village of Crantock, just a short walk from one of North Cornwall’s favourite golden beaches, lies a secret hideaway. The Hatch is a magical Grade-II listed Cornish fudge maker's house that has been transformed into a luxury self-catering cottage for families.
It’s all in the details
Opening the door to this cottage and you’ll feel instantly calm and at home. Earthen tones, organic textures and muted whites come together in this coastal hideaway (*relaxing sounds of ocean waves included*). Enjoy a morning coffee in the airy and light conservatory, featuring a driftwood dining table and sea grass pendants. Potter through the sub-tropical garden filled with colourful blooms, Cornish palms and wildflowers. Then sink in the deep, neutral, linen sofas and get ready to wind down. With four bright bedrooms (kitted out with Bedfolk Linen in Snow), the cottage is surprisingly spacious and sleeps up to nine, with dogs welcome as well.
How to wind down here…
It’s impossible not to feel relaxed here. As well as the colourful garden wrapping around the house, perfect for relaxed al fresco dining, there is also an additional outhouse which is a games-room-come-cinema-snug, complete with a large TV screen, blankets and floor cushions to sink into.
Just a short wander down the road into the village and you’ll find local pubs, glowing festoon lights, a village store, coffee shop and wood fire pizzeria – all of the ingredients for an idyllic coastal village getaway.
In the summer, beautiful Cornish sandy beaches as well as the South West Coast Path are just a short walk away. And on winter evenings, get cosy by the double-sided fireplace complete with large leather armchairs – just add a comforting dish bubbling away in the oven and a glass of red wine.
From The Owner
“The Hatch was a rare find; a characterful quintessential Cornish cottage with a vibrant history, set within beautiful well-established gardens yet just a short walk from one of my favourite North Cornish beaches.
The Hatch was already a much-loved family home; we simply embraced its coastal setting and added a laid-back, beach house flavour to the interior.”
