We've got a Saturday morning ritual for you. Wake up (at whatever time), roll over and read The Homing Call.

It's an exploration of all the things that call our bedfolk home - from novels and DIY to romcoms and wine. Sure, we've spent many hours at home this year, which means we've had even more time to reflect on our creature comforts.

Each week we'll explore a new home pastime worth staying in for - with interviews, lie-in lists and more. Think of it as another excuse to stay in bed ten minutes longer, not that you need one.


The Homing Call: The One About Brunch

This weekend, we’re here to make a case for brunch at home. No long queues, no cold eggs, and another reason to keep your slippers on all day.

Our brunch routine looks a bit like this – wake up late, read in bed and only start cooking when it’s past 11am. Flowers on the table, Bloody Marys in the jug, pyjamas still on and coffee brewing. 

This weekend’s edition is dedicated to brunch: how to make it, how to style it and what to bring to the table (or your bed).

Try This Brunch Recipe

Eggs are great, but have you ever had whipped ricotta on pillowy sourdough? Try it with lemon zest, herbs and olive oil if you’re savoury inclined.  

Ingredients (serves two) 

1 tub ricotta 

3-4 slices of bread, lightly toasted 

1 tbsp olive oil 

½ cup chopped herbs (basil, parsley, dill, oregano) 

Zest of ½ lemon

1 tomato (fridge cold), sliced into thick rounds  


Whip the ricotta, lemon zest, olive oil and chopped herbs with a fork in a bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Spread thickly over your toast, place tomato slices, then add a little more olive oil, zest, salt and a sprinkling of fresh herbs.
