Get Your Best Beauty Sleep With This Relaxing Bedtime Skincare Routine
Getting the right amount of sleep is one of the best things you can do for both your physical and mental wellbeing, so having a regular calming routine before bed is essential if you’re struggling to switch off at night – and can save you from the ritual of counting sheep.
We've teamed up with Liz Earle Beauty Co. who share their top tips for a relaxing bedtime skincare routine.
A mindful cleanse
A relaxing skincare routine is the perfect way to wind down of an evening, helping you melt away the stresses (and make up) of the day. Take your time and begin with a generous amount of cleanser.
Massage it in circles over your neck, cheeks and cheekbones, before lifting the brows gently and continuing the circular motions across your forehead.
These gentle facial massage techniques not only help improve skin’s texture and tone but also transform the experience into a blissfully relaxing pre-sleep habit.
Take a deep breath in
A great way to help yourself feel centred and calm before bed is to simply breathe. While indulging in your cleansing routine, take a moment to hold your hands over your face and close your eyes, breathing in deeply through the nose and out through your mouth while letting your shoulders rise and fall to release tension. Repeat this three times.
Wake up restored
Continue your wind down skincare ritual with a cooling sweep of skin tonic to instantly hydrate, before adding an intensive moisturiser.
Working while you sleep, the moisturiser will hydrate and improve the look of skin imperfections overnight, so you can wake to a glowing, healthy-looking complexion. Who said beauty sleep isn’t real?
Unplug to unwind
Time to switch off! It’s now well known that the blue light from our devices can disrupt our REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep, not to mention the constant notifications that keep the mind a-buzz and awake.
Make sure to leave your phone in another room at least an hour before you intend to doze off and try not to be tempted by soothing yourself to sleep with one more Netflix episode – it can wait until tomorrow.

Create a calm space
Take a look around – is your bedroom a calming environment? If it’s not quite the zen space you’d like, there are a few things you can do to optimise your space.
Experts recommend keeping the bedroom a cool, but comfortable 16-18°C and completely dark during sleeping hours, so consider investing in some blackout blinds or an eye mask if there’s light leaking in.
Keeping your space clutter-free and dedicated to the pursuit of snoozing with fresh, clean bedding are also ways to create a calming atmosphere.
