Article: The Wind Down With Mathilde Kubisiak

The Wind Down With Mathilde Kubisiak

The Wind Down With Mathilde Kubisiak

We're big fans of French stylist and interior designer, Mathilde (owner at MK Design). With her beautiful minimal aesthetic and love of serene spaces, we couldn't wait to sit down and talk all things interiors.

Mathilde has been living in London for the past 10 years, and when she's not immersed in her design studio, she has a passion for Feng Shui, painting and ceramics.

Owl or Lark?

Definitely an Owl. I usually feel the most creative at night, but if I’m not busy painting or planning interiors, I do love a deep sleep!

My morning routine looks something like…

Drinking half a lemon squeezed in a cup of hot water, whilst catching up on my Instagram feed and emails. I've often got a podcast on in the background - I'm currently listening to 'Generation XX', it’s all about French women entrepreneurs and their journey. I also love 'The Mustards' which is about maximal life for the minimalist.

My favourite breakfast spot is…

In bed of course!

My perfect lazy Sunday looks like…

Waking up listening to Bob Marley, with breakfast in bed and the latest issue of Kinfolk or Cereal Magazine. After a slow morning, I love catching up with nature, which usually means strolling in my nearby park. I can also often be found doing some DIY in the house.

My bedroom style is…

A minimalist peaceful sanctuary to indulge in cocooning.

My interior design work is inspired by…

French interior designers Sonia Delaunay and Andrew Putman. They have both profoundly influenced my work but contemporary designers like Note Design Studio are also a huge influence. I love how they are redefining design right now, it really shows how a small creative company can achieve anything when there’s passion!

I’ve recently discovered...

  1. 3D printed lighting company Gantri, who offer some really fun versatile lamps.

  2.  Talented artist Loulouavenue and her spontaneous minimal graphic art work.

  3. The best desert ever: the small choux from Maitre Choux!

I’m currently reading...

Maya Angelou’s 'I know why the caged bird sings', a book my friend Cleo gifted me for my birthday.

My bedtime routine looks something like…

Going to bed as early as I can (10pm is usually perfect for me). I have three essential things which I keep next to my bed.

  1. My favourite face cream or oil.
  2. A bottle of water.
  3. My journal. It helps me plan dreams and execute them, as well as planning my workload. I love the feeling of going to bed without a thousand tasks and ideas in my mind...it means I can fall straight to sleep.

My favourite thing about my Bedfolk bedding is...

That it’s so comfortable! Plus the non-iron relaxed look is both practical and beautiful.

Mathilde (and her Siberian kitten Colonel Dimitrov) sleep on Relaxed in Dove.
