How To Use CBD For Sleep

A good snooze is super important and it can be frustrating when you struggle to achieve that golden eight-hour rest each night. So we’ve roped in the help of our friends at Trip, who wanted to share how cannabidiol (CBD) can help you to fall asleep.

What is CBD and how can it help me to sleep?

Cannabidiol (CBD), and all other parts of the cannabis plant, interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the brain and the rest of your body. These receptors form a part of the endocannabinoid system (the ECS), and when cannabinoids interact with them, they can trigger effects around the rest of the body. 

There are two types of cannabinoid receptors in the human body:

  1. CB1 receptors that are situated around the body and manage stress, mood, memories, appetite, pain and movement.
  1. CB2 receptors that primarily feature in the immune system and impact pain and inflammation.

Once CBD enters the body, it attaches to these receptors to help you feel more calm and balanced.

How do I take CBD for sleep?

If you want to see if CBD oil could help you wind down and shut off, simply place a few drops under your tongue and allow 30 to 60 seconds for it to absorb. It will then move directly into the bloodstream, which will give it the quickest and strongest chance of effectiveness. 

How much CBD should I take for sleep?

For newcomers to CBD products, it would be advisable to start with a low dosage and gradually increase it over a long period of time. You may want to use just a couple of drops of CBD oil at first, and then begin to add more drops each time you use it until you become familiar with the amount that works for you.

What time should I take CBD before bed?

After taking CBD oil, it will probably be about 20 minutes before you start to feel the effects. For some, it could take a little longer, so we would recommend taking CBD up to an hour before bedtime to start winding down and letting go of the day's stresses. 

Everyone’s nightly routine looks different, but hopefully, if you’re CBD-curious, you find it helps you feel more calm and balanced, giving you that much needed good night’s rest.
